Whispered Interpretation

Whispered conference interpretation is used when only one or two participants require the service.
The interpreter sits or stands close to these individuals and whispers the translation directly into their ear as the speaker delivers their presentation.
This technique allows for the message to be delivered immediately without interrupting the flow of the event for other attendees as is the case with consecutive interpretation.
Whispered interpretation is particularly effective in small settings, such as business meetings, workshops, or side discussions.
Advantages:
-
Personal connection: thanks to the interpreter speaking directly to the listener.

-
No equipment.

-
Discretion: Whispered interpretation is less obtrusive than other methods.

-
Cost-effectiveness: Without the need for extensive equipment and setups, whispered interpretation can be a more economical option for smaller events.

Disadvantages:

-
Limited audience: Whispered interpretation is impractical for more than one or two listeners.

-
Noise: Background noise can significantly affect the quality of whispered interpretation, as it may be difficult for both the interpreter and the listener to hear clearly.

-
Distraction for others: The act of whispering can still be distracting for other attendees in the same room.

-
Increased fatigue: Interpreters may tire much more quickly due to the constant strain of speaking softly and dealing with noise in the room without the benefit of soundproofing.
